Financial Haven, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the wealth gap and improving community health outcomes through financial empowerment.
We partner with health systems, behavioral health organizations, FQHCs, and community-based providers to integrate financial literacy into the continuum of care—addressing the social, economic, and behavioral factors that drive chronic disease, stress, and health inequities.
Our evidence-informed programs reduce financial strain, enhance patient and caregiver engagement, and promote healthier financial and behavioral habits that lead to improved overall well-being and population health outcomes.

Our Mission
Our mission is to integrate financial literacy as a core component of health and wellness. We partner with healthcare and community organizations to deliver evidence-based financial education that improves overall well-being and reduces socioeconomic barriers in underserved populations.
Dr. Ashlee Shands is an experienced strategist, educator, and nonprofit leader focused on the intersection of financial literacy, health equity, and behavior change. She is the founder and president of Financial Haven, Inc., where she leads mission-driven programs that equip individuals and families with tools to build long-term financial resilience and plan for the future.
Holding a doctorate in Healthcare Administration, along with degrees in Public Administration and Marketing Management, Dr. Shands brings a multidisciplinary lens to her work. She is also a certified Financial Education Instructor through the National Financial Educators Council (NFEC), with a deep commitment to community-centered innovation. In addition to her financial literacy certification, she is also certified in Mental Health First Aid.
Alongside her nonprofit initiatives, Dr. Shands developed the innovative SHIFT Framework— a five-step personal development model rooted in Self-awareness, Habits, Intentions, Flexibility, and Transformation. This framework bridges financial behavior, mindset, and strategic planning, and serves as the foundation for her workshops, coaching programs, and upcoming book.
Her work has empowered over 100 families through education, resource development, and strategic partnerships across healthcare and nonprofit sectors. She continues to expand her impact through legacy planning, professional development, and systems-change initiatives.
